| monitored 24 hours per day by a nurse. When the measured blood oxygen level exceeds the specified level, the oxygen environment in the chamber must be adjusted accordingly. Clearly, an automatic control of the oxygen level to maintain the correct oxygen in the infant's blood would be useful. The volunteer said: "This is just the kind of task I am interested in!" The result was a dedicated volunteer that researched the medical aspects of premature infants, the details of the equipment used to measure the oxygen blood level, and the control of the oxygen in the infant chamber. He searched the literature and found a medical paper describing the operation of a premature infant's heart and lungs, the oxygen level desired, etc. He utilized this information to develop a computer simulation of the performance including the noise normally experienced in a live situation. To read his technical paper and his objective see: www.vp-ma.org and click on staff showed us their activities concerning handicapped patients. These activities varied from making prostheses for patients who lost a foot to providing special attachments to VPMA Technical Paper.
